The marvellous Saint Hubert, Luberon
There we are at last, time flies. It’s been 2 years since we wanted to go back to the Luberon and stay at le Saint Hubert, a beautiful hotel, restaurant and café in St Saturnin lès Apt.
First of all, it’s a comment that I make often, I am amazed by the talent of younger people to come back to the smaller cities and villages and create a pole of attraction, work with local products, have a passion for the products and the professionalism they work with. Chapeau!
What can I say about the place? it’s located in a small village, Saint Saturnin lès Apt, 10 minutes away from Gordes. 1 minute away from the church, at the epicentre of the market. It is kids friendly, it is authentic, the team is welcoming, kind and professional. The Hotel is well decorated, subtle, a great mix of traditional and new, it is peaceful. In a word, for our taste : perfect!
the restaurant offers an amazing view over the the plain, the food is fine yet not chichi. they work with the local producers. the wines were very interesting, we discovered through Luce Mathieu, the fantastic Maître D, a local natural wine from a small winery Le Domaine de l’Or vert in Lauris, not far from the Hotel.
It is a very small winery, the wines that we had are very elegant and fresh, especially, if like me, you like Beaujolais wines with a complex yet lighter body @domaineorvert
Luce Mathieu is in charge of the service team and the well functioning of the restaurant, after living in Corsica and in Lyon, she came back to the Luberon and started at Le Saint Hubert as a Maître d’hôtel.
Lise Kvan, the owner of the place wth her husband, studied at ferrandi, is a chef and decided to move to Saint Saturnin Lès Apt because of the place, the hotel that they found in 2019.
After years of work and the collaboration of her sster who is interior designer, they managed to make a special place where city slickers can only be envious of this way of life.
The Luberon provides a steady clientele, with holiday houses or locals all year round, the location is surrounded with great destinations such as Avignon, Aix en Provence, Arles, Marseille to only name a few.
The food was fine using local products which are of high quality.
The Gazpacio with the market vegetables was as beautiful as tasty, the carpaccio of seabream, orange and fennel salad was delicious, Isaac had homemade pasta, then we had the sea perch, red pesto, ratatouille and olives; the lamm, the crunchy sliced potatoes, zuchini and salsa verde. For the dessert, the menu was completely speaking to me, we had one of each.
these could have been creations of mine, no chichi, tasty, seasonal. The verbene parfait with peach coulis was a delight so was the fig leaves posset. The chocolate crèmeux with confit oranges, sesame tuile and olive oil was also fine.
