Brion, Paris
I have been to Paris twice this year, which has not happened since my kid was born, 8 years ago.
What a delight to re-discover this city, where I regularly went with my parents to visit some of the Family, where I studied and where I had some of my favorite culinary experiences.
It still remains one of my favorite culinary destinations and I like to try out places.
Before I left, I booked 3 places for our stay. A wine bar, a bistrot and a more refined restaurant for lunch.
Brion, a highlight of this trip, a welcoming staff, a very well designed restaurant with an opened kitchen at the back, light beige walls, green sits and woodens chairs, swimming in a beautiful summery light.
The Chef Geoffrey Lengagne has gained valuable experiences with some prestigious Chefs such as Pierre Gagnaire, in London, La Mère Mazière in Lyon with Chef Mathieu Viannay and Thomas Keller in New York. His know-how can be tasted as much as seen on his plates.
We were slightly early, so I photographed the place before customers came in.
I love the french lunch culture, it is an institution, which I do not see everywhere. It is also a more affordable way to try out fine dining places, and that’s an amazing opportunity.
12h15, people start arriving. The crowd was mixed, from locals’ business lunch to friends meet, it was lively and “convivial”.
The FoH was very friendly, she said “oh good that you are taking photos now, we will be renovating the place, scrape the walls and have the apparent stones and improve the acoustic, it resonates too much when it is full.”
We looked at the menu and went for the 3 course menu for 39€, I also went for a delicious glas of white Côtes du Rhône.
The food very well prepared and very fine. The starter was composed of green beans, which did not sound exciting at first. But the result was a delicious, beautifully plated starter, with a tasty sauce made of buttermilk, green herbs and anchovies, the beans were covered with a very thin slice of pork fat, I even thought it was rice paper, it was so thin.
I had the fish and potatoes, sliced with fine sauce and my friend had the pork medaillons with broad beans and a slightly spicy sauce. All very tasty and full in flavors. The dessert was a matcha panna cotta with rhubarb.
The whole lunch was very nice, and I can only recommend this place for lunch or for dinner.
Please leave comments if you try this place.
