A sneak peak at the restaurant OTTO, Berlin.

It is so interesting to have dinner with a German from the south, one from the north and a New Yorker chef and to talk about wether what we are being served is German or Nordic European?

Sitting in Otto, a restaurant with about 20 seats on Oderberger Strasse in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg. It has been the focus of the locals, tourists and the press since its opening in 2020. at not even 30, Vadim Otto Ursus is the creative head behind this place. Traveling the world in Oslo, Mexico or Lisbon, he trained with the most creative chefs. Otto is a heaven for unusual tastes, deliciousness and delicious wines.

When asked if they consider themselves as a German restaurant, we were told that some qualified them as "contemporary continental". But, as they come from Berlin, they serve products from Berlin and Brandenburg, so it is per definition a German Restaurant.
My friend from northern Germany, defines it as German, for it has lentils crackers, herring, wild herbs salad, fermented vegetables and the cheese tart.
These are elements of German Cuisine which not are known as the Bavarian or Swabian ones.
